Derek Norris

Derek is a former professional baseball player turned development coach with a strong background in playing and coaching the game at a high level. A 2007 graduate of Goddard High School, Derek was selected in the 4th round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals. His playing career spanned over a decade, including time with the Nationals (2007–2011), Oakland Athletics (2012–2014), San Diego Padres (2015–2016), and Tampa Bay Rays (2017).

Since transitioning into coaching, Derek has worked with several programs, including Goddard High School (2022; 2024), Wichita Heights High School (2025), and Pitching WRX (2023).

Derek’s coaching philosophy centers on identifying and developing talent through modern analytics and data-driven instruction. He’s passionate about helping players unlock their potential using today’s best tools and methods. His specialties include hitting and catching development and pitch design. When he’s not coaching, Derek enjoys playing golf and staying active within the baseball community.
